Thursday at 7pt: Dana Goodyear
True crime, foodie adventures in LA, and the library: what could be better?
And we’re baaaaaackkkk! Happy New Year! It’s 2022! Perhaps this year will be at least a touch lighter on things that inspire existential dread and bone-deep exhaustion. Hope springs eternal, and that’s my hope for you and for all of us.
Let’s kick that off with a riveting conversation with a bone fide member of the glitterati, Dana Goodyear, to benefit the LA Public Library!
The details:
This Thursday @ 7pm on Zoom
Dana Goodyear is a staff writer at The New Yorker and the author of two collections of poetry and the nonfiction book Anything That Moves: Renegade Chefs, Fearless Eaters, and the Making of a New American Food Culture.
Anything That Moves is a favorite of mine - a foodie book that celebrates Los Angeles food culture! Think every book or article you’ve read that makes it seem like New York is the only place to be an adventurous eater and enjoy excellent food. Now finish your eye roll about that irritating notion and imagine an honest and loving dive into LA’s glorious food scene. Swoon. You can pick up a copy of Anything that Moves from The Library Store to further benefit my favorite and yours, the LA Public Library.
Dana’s current project is the true crime podcast Lost Hills, which tracks the twists and turns of the investigation into a 2018 murder in Malibu Creek State Park. Season two launched on December 1, so you can catch give it a listen and bring with your burning questions.
I pledge to bring back the “Books We Should Chat About” reading recommendations to this space with more reliable frequency this year. Maybe I’ll even do a 2021 book round up like my 2020 book round up. (Hope springs eternal? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) Many thanks to all who’ve reached out noting you missed them! How lovely and flattering!
Hope to see you Thursday!
Best,
Shayna
